Enzo Maresca: Chelsea boss addresses Man City links
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has brushed off the transfer rumours linking him with a move to Manchester City, stating emphatically that he was fully focused on his job at Stamford Bridge.
What Maresca said
Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash against Newcastle this weekend, the former Leicester City coach said that he refuses to pay attention to the rumours linking him away from Chelsea.
"It doesn't affect me because I know it is 100 per cent speculation and I don't have time for these things,” he said.
“I have a contract here until 2029. My focus is just on this club, and I am proud to be here. One week ago in Italy, it was the same with Juventus. I don't pay attention to it. It's important to understand why this news was there, but it is just speculation. The Newcastle game is important and very difficult.”
Why he said it
The Athletic reported yesterday that Manchester City has shortlisted Maresca as one of the likely candidates to replace Pep Guardiola, whose time at City is believed to be coming to an end.
The reports have sparked concerns within the Chelsea fanbase. However, Maresca’s reaction has quelled the unrest, as he reinforced belief in his continuation.
