After their Thursday practice in preparation for the match, Ekwutoziam said the players are conscious of their responsibilities to the team.

“A lot is expected from us, knowing how strong Wydad AC is. They are one of the biggest clubs in Africa but we are not under pressure.

“We have been working hard, keeping shape and working on our strategies on how to eliminate them. A lot is expected from us not just from our fans, but Nigerians and our fans across West Africa. We are not going to let them down.

“We are going into the game with the right mindset to get a victory, and AFL league is a big platform. Being the maiden edition, it is an opportunity for most of us, and we are working hard to make the best out of it.

“We call on all our fans from all over the nation and Africa to come out en mass and cheer us to victory. We assure them to be at our best to get the needed result.

For Chibueze Izuogu, he called on supporters of the People's Elephant to rally behind them and cheer them on to victory.

He said: “I am really happy to be in the club representing Nigeria in this maiden edition of the AFL league. I am promising our darling fans that we will do our best because the mentality is very high and our confidence is also high in the camp. Everyone is preparing very hard to get the victory that is required.”
