Chelsea legend has pleaded with Chelsea to re-sign departing Man City star De Bruyne

Former Chelsea winger Joe Cole has made a passionate plea to his old club, urging them to seize the opportunity to re-sign Kevin De Bruyne, who recently confirmed his departure from Manchester City at the end of the current season.

De Bruyne's illustrious ten-year spell at Manchester City will conclude this summer, leaving him as a free agent. During his time at the Etihad, the Belgian maestro has etched his name into Premier League history, notching 106 goals and a staggering 176 assists in 414 appearances, a statistic that will undoubtedly leave Chelsea ruing their decision to let him leave in 2014.

Despite De Bruyne being linked with potential moves to the MLS and Saudi Arabia, he has hinted at the possibility of remaining in the Premier League.

What Joe Cole said

This has prompted Joe Cole to implore Chelsea's hierarchy to consider a sensational return for the Belgian playmaker.

Speaking candidly, Cole stated, "If I’m Chelsea and I’m sitting around with them [the board], I’m going, ‘we need experienced players’. He’s been injured a bit, but what he gives the changing room as a winner, as a leader, we might only need him for 30 games a season, we can manage him.

"Imagine him walking through the door with those young players and those difficult moments. I would say, ‘whatever you want, we’ll write it off’. Come and play for us for two years," he said.

The 33-year-old previously spent two seasons at Stamford Bridge between 2012 and 2014 but struggled for regular game time, making just nine appearances before being loaned to Werder Bremen and subsequently sold to Wolfsburg.

His sensational performances in the Bundesliga earned him a move to Manchester City, where he blossomed into arguably the club's greatest-ever player, winning six Premier League titles, five Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, and the Champions League.
