Burna Boy is set to make history as the first-ever African artiste to perform in a Champions League final.

Burna Boy will be performing at the Champions League final in Istanbul alongside another amazing headliner following an official confirmation on Thursday, March 16.

Burna Boy who recently headlined at the NBA All-Star Halftime show will now take centre stage once more in sports, this time at the biggest club soccer event on the planet.

The confirmation was made via an official post on Thursday, March 16, in a clip that showed the Grammy-Award-winning superstar confirming that he will be performing some of his biggest hits at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey on June 10, 2023.

Following the announcement, fans have since taken to social media to congratulate the self-acclaimed ‘African giant’ as well as debate his performance fee for perhaps the biggest show of his illustrious career, with many asking the question, ‘how much exactly will he be paid for the show?’

To answer this question, it is pertinent to first understand what the artiste in question charges on average for an international show.

Recent reports have suggested that the ‘Last Last’ crooner charges at least $500,000 USD which is equivalent to N370 million for performance fees alongside a bucket-list of requirements on his rider.

A detailed report from Africa Nation reveals that, as at 2022, to book Burna Boy for an event, in addition to his fees, a 13-seater challenger jet is required for him and his team with the specifications: “Private jet to be vetted by the management team prior to booking.”

In whatever city or country the Grammy-Award winning singer is booked, upon arrival he is to be “picked up by a convoy of five vehicles, a Sprinter bus, a van and three SUVs. The transportation should be available to the artist for the duration of the trip.” - however, this requirement is pretty much standard for artistes who go on tour.

Burna Boy travels separately from his band.

The jet is understood to be only meant for him,  his manager and close associates.

For his band, the host will have to book 14 flight tickets in consultation with his management.

Burna is the first African solo headliner to sell out Madison Square Garden, let alone two shows and so it is expected that yesterday’s price is not today’s price.

Now that we have a slight idea of what Burna Boy would at least receive from an international show.

It is safe to speculate that he would most likely be paid far more than that $500,000 USD.

Burna recently insinuated that he had earned up to $1 million USD from a single show, causing fans to react on social media.

But in actuality, to call his claims false would be incorrect.

Nigerian music is evolving every day as is its biggest artistes and brands who are actually the flagbearers of the Afrobeat genre.

Following Davido’s highly-anticipated performance at the 2022 World Cup closing ceremony in Qatar, the 30BG boss appeared to hint about his earnings from the World Cup gig after an overzealous troll quizzed him in the comments section of one of his Instagram posts.

The troll had questioned why he was panicking during his performance.

In response, Davido revealed that he made over a million dollars during his performance at FIFA World Cup draw ceremony and a feature on the World Cup theme song.

The Ig user wrote: “Why you dey panic 003??”, before Davido replied, “Panic? I made over a million dollars today? How was YOUR day???”.

If anything it is crystal clear that Afrobeats superstars have since started make tens of millions of dollars from international shows and performances.

This relates back to the point made earlier about Burna’s declaration of his earnings on social media.

Burna, like Davido and Wizkid, is already way above the A-list category of artistes in Nigeria.

These superstars could command fees no other African artiste can, and that is down to a number of obvious reasons, revolving around market value.

So to answer the question, ‘How much will Burna earn from the Champions League final performance?’, we can only speculate that the Afrofusion giant will earn an estimate of around $2million - $5million USD.

However, this is just an estimate as there have been no details of the official figure while taking into consideration his base performance fee.

What is however certain with the African giant, is that 'yesterday's price is not today's price'.

Burna Boy will perform in front of over 74,000 fans. And like the Super Bowl, performances like these tend to have an impact on the artiste’s digital streams and revenue.

This is largely why artistes who perform at the Super Bowl do not get paid.

Rihanna headlined the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show

It is a strategy that has worked for the biggest of superstars in world music from Beyonce, to Shakira, to the Weeknd, Jennifer Lopez, and even Rihanna amongst others.

Although, it is highly unlikely that strategy will be deployed in the Champions League as the UCL and the Super Bowl are two different divides, with a different audience to a large extent.
