The Yellow Wall inspired Borrusia Dortmund to a stunning comeback to knock Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund clawed back from a 2-1 defeat in the first leg by winning 4-2 at Signal Iduna Park, to go through 5-4 on aggregates.

Atletico Madrid came into the tie with a goal advantage after failing to capitalise on dominance in the first-leg at Wanda Metropolitano. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, were at their clinical best in front of their own fans.

How it happened

Die Schwarzgelben started like a house on fire and had a two-goal lead in the first half, but Atleti fought back to equalise 2-2 and lead on aggregate after an inspired Angel Correa sub. However, the Yellow Wall inspired a second-wind performance from the hosts, and they roared back in front, and then some.

The match started with both sides squandering early opportunities to take the lead. Dortmund's Maatsen set up Sabitzer, only for Azpilicueta to make a crucial block, while Morata missed a chance for Atletico with a wide chip.

Despite Dortmund enjoying more possession and chances, they struggled to trouble Oblak until the 33rd minute, when Hummels delivered a sublime pass to Brandt, who fired his shot past Oblak to give Dortmund the lead. Just six minutes later, Dortmund extended their advantage as Sabitzer and Maatsen combined again, with the latter finding the net with a precise finish.

Atletico responded quickly after halftime, with Hermoso heading in from a corner to reduce the deficit. Correa missed a chance to level the score before redeeming himself with a well-taken goal, smashing the ball in off the crossbar.

However, Dortmund regained control of the match, with Füllkrug heading in a cross from Sabitzer to restore their lead. Sabitzer then capitalized on a deflected ball to score Dortmund's fifth goal of the night.

Despite Oblak's heroics in goal, Atletico couldn't find a late equalizer, succumbing to their eighth defeat in their last 11 trips to Germany. Dortmund's victory on home soil ensured their progression to the next round, marking their ninth European tie success in their history after losing the first leg away.
