Bobby Charlton: Manchester United and England legend dies aged 86

Legendary Manchester United and England forward Sir Bobby Charlton has sadly passed away at the age of 86.

Charlton is one of the greatest footballers of all time, especially in England where he starred for Manchester United, scoring 249 goals in 758 appearances between 1956 and 1973. 

He also won the European Cup with the Red Devils in 1968.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning," a statement from his family read.

Bobby Charlton dies aged 86

"He was surrounded by his family. His family would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who has contributed to his care and for the many people who have loved and supported him. "We would request that the family's privacy be respected at this time."

Charlton won the World Cup with England in 1966 and earned 106 caps for his country.
