Emmanuel Macron has revealed concerns over Kylian Mbappe’s proposed switch to Real Madrid

French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his concerns regarding a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain’s star Kylian Mbappe to LaLiga champions Real Madrid, with the 46-year-old executive particularly worried about the striker’s participation in the Olympic Games.

Macron eager for Mbappe to play at the Olympics in Paris

In an interview with 'La Tribune Dimanche,' President Macron expressed his hope that other European clubs, including Real Madrid, would emulate France’s Ligue 1 sides by allowing their players to participate in the Olympic Games saying, "I really hope that all European clubs will release their players, as French clubs have done, that's the Olympic spirit.”

He also disclosed that he recently discussed Mbappe's intentions regarding the Olympics with the player's father, continuing, "I met Mbappe's father last week and asked him the question. He told me: 'He wants to play them [the Olympics]."

Real Madrid's stance on Olympic participation

Meanwhile, it has been reported by Spanish news outlet MARCA that Real Madrid has made its position clear regarding the participation of its players in the Olympic Games.

Los Blancos have reportedly communicated to the French Football Federation its decision not to allow its international players, including Mbappe, to attend the Olympics so that the forward can be in top shape to start the pre-season with his new club should the transfer go through.

Macron's involvement in Mbappe's career decisions is not new, as he previously intervened to dissuade the striker from leaving Paris Saint-Germain for Real Madrid in 2022. However, it appears that the president’s hands may be tied regarding the French striker’s moves this summer.
