Operation Old Trafford: Bassey and Iwobi set to revisit the scene of historic Manchester vawulence.

The Super Eagles duo of Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi are heading back to the Theatre of Dreams this Sunday, and if history is anything to go by, Manchester United’s defence should be very worried.

As Fulham prepare for their Premier League clash at Old Trafford, the West London club has been busy stoking the fires of memory.

They took to social media to remind fans of the last time the Nigerian pair stepped onto that pitch, a day that ended in a 1-1 draw en route to penalty shootout victory for the Cottagers and absolute scenes in the away end.

‘C Bass is a cold nickname’ — Fulham sparks the buildup

The trip down memory lane began when Fulham’s official X account posted a clip of their powerhouse defender, captioned: “C Bass on our last trip to Old Trafford.”

The post immediately caught fire, with fans falling in love with the defender's moniker. “C Bass is a cold nickname, I can’t lie,” one supporter admitted, while another challenged the center-back to repeat his heroics: “You will do it again this weekend now, Abi?”

For those who need a refresher, the last meeting was a masterclass in Nigerian efficiency. Bassey opened the scoring with a thunderous header into the roof of the net, before Bruno Fernandes equalised to force a penalty shootout.

However, some fans were quick to point out that the circumstances have changed, specifically in goal for the Red Devils. One cheeky supporter noted the absence of a certain Cameroonian relative: “Bassey, your cousin André Onana is no longer here!”

Others were less kind about the previous goalkeeping display, with one fan joking, “I swear Onana is not a goalkeeper with that kind of nonchalant jumping,” while another dismissed the previous victory entirely, laughing, “This doesn’t count, HAHAHAHA. Onana was in goal!”

Despite the banter, the respect for the duo is undeniable. Bassey’s physicality and Iwobi’s late-game composure have made them undeniable in the eyes of the Fulham faithful.

With United currently finding their feet under new leadership, the question remains whether the Super Eagles stars can design Old Trafford turf with goals once again.
