Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala has reportedly arrived in Saudi Arabia to complete a move to Al Hilal’s women's team after a year and a half at Bay FC.
The 30-year-old joined the NWSL outfit in February last year and has only managed 38 appearances, in which she scored eight goals. She is now set to join the Blue Waves.
The details
According to The Athletic, Al Hilal completed the agreement for the Nigerian international striker before the transfer window closed.
Bay FC and Al Hilal reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee, and Oshoala is now in Saudi Arabia ahead of a medical scheduled for tonight, the report stated. The Saudi team are expected to officially announce the move after the medical is completed.
Bay FC had a match today, and Oshoala was excused from the squad so as to facilitate the move to Al Hilal. The Saudi outfit will be the seventh club Oshoala has played for across three continents after previously representing Robo Queens, Rivers Angels, Arsenal Women, Liverpool Women, Dalian Quamjian, Barcelona and Bay FC.
The move comes after Oshoala's game times with her club severely waned, with head coach Albertin Montoya citing her poor defensive contributions as the reason she has only managed five starts this season.
Oshoala will join her compatriots Ashleigh Plumptre (Al Ittihad) and Rita Chilwelu (Al-Riyadh) and Nigerian women stars plying their trade in the Gulf, as the Saudi League continues to expand its investment in the men and women's games.
