Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim compared different eras of football.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim noted a major difference between footballers today and in his era, stating that modern players do not watch the sport as much.

The Red Devils boss exempted his captain, Bruno Fernandes, from this assessment, suggesting that most other players in his squad prefer to spend their pastime working on something other than football.

What Amorim said

Amorim said that distractions abound for players nowadays, and they rarely watch football, and in the Portuguese’s assessment, that is a negative.

“Football players nowadays don't watch many games, unfortunately,” said Amorim, per One Football. “Everything now is different with a lot of distractions. I think they don't watch a lot of games.

“Bruno watches every game that is on TV. But then you have some guys that play really well. They want to do something different. That's okay.”

He went on to stress Fernandes’s leadership qualities and confirmed that he will continue in his role as primary penalty taker despite all the forward players they signed.

“Yes, he's the main taker. He scores a lot of goals. We have other options. If we need, we can change. But I'm full confident that Bruno will sort that out.”

“I think he has 70 penalties. He misses like nine, two with me, so I'm really annoyed with that. But he's really confident. He's training the penalties. He's trying to understand that people are watching the way he scores the penalties.”
