Super Falcons legend Rasheedat Ajibade scored twice to give Nigeria a comfortable win over Cameroon
Nigeria's Super Falcons had captain fantastic Rasheedat Ajibade to thank for their routine 2-0 win over Cameroon in their preparatory friendly for the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations coming up in July.
Ajibade scored two goals in the first half against Cameroon, proving once again that she is in the best shape for the upcoming WAFCON tournament in Morocco.
How it happened
Rasheedat Ajibade led the charge as Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a confident 2-0 win over Cameroon in a pre-WAFCON international friendly in Abeokuta. Captaining the team, Ajibade scored both goals in the first half, first from the penalty spot after being fouled in the box, then finishing a slick team move assisted by Omorinsola Babajide.
Despite heavy rain and a slippery pitch at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Nigeria remained sharp, with Ifeoma Onumonu and Toni Payne creating early chances.
Cameroon struggled to respond and rarely troubled Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. The Super Falcons continued to control the tempo in the second half with a flurry of substitutions, including Francisca Ordega and Christy Ucheibe.
Babajide impressed before being forced off with a knock, while Deborah Abiodun and Toni Payne pulled the strings in midfield. Although the goals dried up after halftime, Nigeria maintained possession and dominance.
The win was Nigeria’s 15th over Cameroon in 21 meetings, and gives head coach Justin Madugu a strong platform ahead of the WAFCON tournament. With a clean sheet, squad depth, and Ajibade in top form, the Super Falcons look ready to challenge for continental glory.
