AFCON 2025: ‘We're Going to War’ - Osimhen warns other African teams as Super Eagles aim for the title
The Galatasaray striker is expected to lead Nigeria's attack for the second consecutive African Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles reached the final of the last edition in 2023, but lost to the host country Ivory Coast, in the final.
Nigeria's AFCON campaign is scheduled to begin on Tuesday against Tanzania at the Fez Stadium, following their regrouping in Morocco for the tournament.
Osimhen speaks ahead of opener
While the Super Eagles are considered favourites against Tanzania in their opening match, Osimhen cautioned against any complacency.
"We're going to war, and Tuesday is the first one. We will give everything, and we're not underrating anyone," Osimhen stated in an interview with SportyTV.
"There are many favourites in this competition, and we're going to give our all to realise our dream of winning the AFCON."
Nigeria is aiming for its fourth AFCON title and its first since 2013, but Osimhen acknowledged the path to victory will be challenging.
"I believe so much in this squad, I believe in the coaching staff and everyone associated with the team," he said. "It’s not going to be easy because we still have a long way to go, but I am positive about this squad."
Osimhen also confirmed he has fully recovered from the hamstring injury he sustained during the World Cup playoff final against DR Congo.
"I am okay," he confirmed. "I just came back from a hamstring injury. A big shoutout to my club, Galatasaray; they have been very supportive and ensured I had some games before reporting for national duty."
