Although they have failed to win their opening game at AFCON in the last 21 years, the pressure is mounting on them to get a victory.

However, they ended their poor opening game streak with a 2-1 win over the Antelopes at the 2025 Nations Cup.

As it happened

South Africa had a good start to the game, putting pressure on the defence of Angola, but it took them until the 21st minute before Oswin Appollis pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with a shot into the bottom left corner.

However, Angola strode forward in search of the equaliser, which came in the 35th minute before the half-time break.

Fredy floated a lovely ball in from the free kick to Show, and he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, beating the goalkeeper.

However, South Africa did not relent and their pressure paid off in the 71st minute when Tshepang Moremi slipped the ball to Lyle Foster on the edge of the box and he found the right side of the net with a great strike.
