CAF have cut down the list of nominees for the 2023 Player of the Year to 10 and Victor Osimhen makes the cut along with other African superstars.
CAF have trimmed down the 2023 Player of the Year nominees list to 10 players which includes the biggest names in African football.
The initial nominations list featured 30 players but has now been reduced to 10 and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen is the only Nigerian that made it.
Osimhen makes the list alongside four Moroccans, Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, Yaccine Bounou and Yousef En-Nesyri mostly for their World Cup exploits.
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Algerian Riyad Mahrez, Senegalese Sadio Mane, and two Cameroonians, Zambo Anguissa and Vincent Aboubakar are the rest of the top 10.
Osimhen nominated for CAF Player of the Year
Napoli striker Osimhen is regarded widely as the frontrunner for the 2023 edition of the Player of the Year, after an incredible 12 months for club and country.
The 24-year-old scored 31 goals in 39 games across all competitions to help Napoli end their 33-year wait to win Serie A.
Osimhen is on course to be the first Nigerian to win the CAF Player of the Year award since Kanu Nwankwo in 1999.
