Chelsea were taught another harsh lesson by Real Madrid in the Champions League and Blues fans are all singing the same song on social media.

Real Madrid recorded a 2-0 win against Chelsea in the first leg of the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men were hoping to continue their bid to defend their European crown having all but conceded defeat in their quest to also defend the LaLiga title this season.

Chelsea came into the fixture bearing in mind, their lowly 11th position on the Premier League table with a Champions League triumph - a guarantee for them to compete in Europe next season.

Chelsea started the opening minutes brightly and nearly opened the scoring after N'Golo Kanté picked out João Félix, but the latter’s effort was kept out by Thibaut Courtois.

However, the Bernabéu roar was loud and clear as the hosts soon opened the scoring courtesy of none other than Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema who put Los Blancos in front with his 90th UCL goal.

Dani Carvajal lofted a simple ball over the Blues defence to Vinícius Júnior, whose initial shot was saved by Courtois and the Frenchman slotted home the rebound in the 21st minute for his 26th goal of the season in all competitions.

Chelsea almost responded immediately after a great piece of play from Reece James, as he picked out Raheem Sterling, whose effort was brilliantly kept out by Courtois at his near post.

Thiago Silva then produced a superb clearance from the six-yard box to keep out another Vinícius effort, leaving Frank Lampard’s side trailing as Madrid went intonthe break with a slender lead.

Second Half: Chilwell's Red Card highlights disastrous outing for Blues

The second half was more of the same for Madrid as Vinícius kept causing the Blues’ defence all sorts of problems with his lightning pace and quick feet.

Chelsea soon suffered a blow as Lampard was forced to reshuffle his defensive linup when Kalidou Koulibaly was forced off injured after a chase with Rodrygo, with Marc Cucurella coming on to replace him in the 55th minute.

Four minutes later, the Blues were reduced down to 10 men after a cynical foul from Ben Chilwell on Rodrygo as the Brazilian raced towards goal.

The England defender received a straight red card from referee Francois Letexier, landing another huge blow to the visitors.

Ancelotti’s men soon took advantage of their numbers and found a second goal through substitute Marco Asensio, who made an immediate impact from the bench.

Asensio struck from the edge of the area in the 74th minute beating Kepa following a wonderfully-worked corner involving Modrić, Toni Kroos and Vinícius.

In the end, Madrid were victorious recording a 2-0 victory against the 2021 champions and setting one foot already in the semis.

This result for Chelsea ended a four-match unbeaten run on Spanish soil, leaving the Frank Lampard’s Blues to reflect more on their precarious campaign in general so far this season.
