'More goals than Chelsea' - Reactions as Erling Haaland clinches 30 PL goals in Man City's 4-1 win against Southampton
Manchester City strolled to a 4-1 win against relegation-threatened Southampton in the Premier League at St. Mary's on Saturday evening, April 8, 2023.
The Saints hoped to get a result against the defending champions to aid their hopes of avoiding relegation this season.
However, they were handed a brutal reality check by Pepe Guardiola’s men.
After creating a slew of chances, the visitors finally opened the scoring as Erling Haaland, on his return from injury, headed home in the 45th minute to give City the goal just before the half-time break.

Man City built on their lead in the second half with Kevin de Bruyne putting in another impressive shift for the visitors.
Jack Grealish doubled City’s advantage in the 58th minute as the Saints had no answer to City’s resilient attack.
The visitors continued to dominate on the ball and Haaland bagged a brace 10 minutes later via a spectacular overhead kick to put City 3-0 up and record his 30th Premier League goal of the season.

The hosts were able to grab a goal which proved to be only a consolation as Sekou Mara fired home in the 72nd minute.
However, City would have the final say once more as substitute Julian Alvarez put the game beyond doubt three minutes later after blasting home a penalty.
In the end, City ran out as convincing winners in what was largely one-way traffic at St.Mary’s on Saturday evening.
The win for City puts them five points behind league leaders Arsenal who face Liverpool on Sunday, April 9.
And the loss for Southampton still leaves them languishing at the bottom of the table as their chances of survival continue to weaken.
