Ahead of the new Nigeria National League, NNL season, Lagos-based community club, Ikorodu City, has announced BetKing as a new sponsor.

Ikorodu and BetKing have already put pen to paper on a one-year multimillion Naira deal as reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria last week.

Following their win in the Lagos State FA Cup semifinal, Ikorodu City director spoke exclusively to Pulse Sports Nigeria on the deal with BetKing.

City director and renowned photojournalist, Adepoju Tobi Samuel, popularly known as Oganlamedia, in his chat with Pulse Sports, revealed amongst other things that the Oga Boys ‘needed millions’ and BetKing agreed to provide just that.

The beginning

Set up one year ago, Ikorodu City are ambitious both on and off the pitch and to support that idea and goal, Adeboju and his team knew they needed more than passion.

Ikorodu City director, Adepoju Tobi Samuel believes the BetKing deal will help Oga Boys achieve their dreams.

“Setting up this club, our aim was (is) to grow slowly to the top and we know that private brands will play a key role as a community club that we are,” Tobi stated.

“We knew we needed as many sponsors and partners to grow this brand (Ikorodu City) together. It was really remarkable for us that when we launched last year, barely one month we got Loftus Bank as our partner - shirt sponsor - and (now) 12 months in,  we (have) got BetKing.”

What the BetKing deal means for Ikorodu City

Following the unveiling last week, the Oga Boys celebrated the deal with a hard-fought defeat of Box 2 Box FC via a penalty shootout en route to the Lagos State FA Cup final.

Ikorodu City wore their new kits with BetKing boldly written on the shirt and for Tobi,  it is an investment that has got everyone involved excited for the future.

“They (BetKing) are putting a lot of millions into this, a lot of investment.  You know, in club football you need a lot of millions to pay salaries, play games, handle logistics and we are also looking at the youth teams.”

“So,  we need a lot of millions to run our activities and that is what BetKing is bringing on board.  They see excited about this, we are excited and they have keyed into our vision. I mean, the managing director (of BetKing) spoke about it, the youth teams, we have already been on that path and also to do well in the league, play good football, attract fans and make it a big brand that Lagos fans will appreciate.”

“Yes, we are a community club from Ikorodu, but we want to attract fans in Lagos, across Nigeria and the world. So, BetKing is bringing a lot of investment into this and this will push us to achieve our dreams and also ensure we are in a very good financial state.”

In his conclusion, the Ikorodu City director added that it was hard work for everyone at the club and they are indeed excited that it happened.

“It has really been a lot of hard work from the entire management team and we are excited about this,” he added.

“We appreciate BetKing for coming on board to join this journey with us.”
