The Red Devils will now face Fulham in the quarter-final as they hope to win trophies after the Carabao Cup success.

Erik ten Hag has revealed the talk he had with  Alejandro Garnacho before Manchester United’s 3-1 FA Cup win over West Ham United.

The Red Devils recovered from Said Benrahma’s opener for West Ham before an own goal from Nayef Aguerd levelled the scoreline.

Garnacho and Fred scored two more goals late in the second half to ensure Manchester United progressed.

Ten Hag has now revealed a pep talk he had with the young Argentinian before the win over the Hammers.

"I said to him before the game, ‘it’s time. You have an impact when you come on, but now you have to have an impact as a starter," the Dutchman said.

"And I think he is capable of it, so that is the next step he has to make. It is a great skill when you’re fearless, when you’re brave.

"I don’t think that it’s a skill that is so specific, there are not so many players in world football who can take players on, who can just out-dribble them, and that skill he has.

"But he has more skills than only that, for example, finishing. But also, I see he has a big engine, he is fast, he has speed, he can keep running for 90 minutes, for 120 minutes, it doesn’t matter how long, he can do it.’

The 18-year-old has now scored four goals for United this season.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag made a claim that Wout Weghorst was among the best players during their fifth-round clash with the Hammers.

"I think he was one of the best players on the pitch," Ten Hag added. "I think he was involved to see the corner, maybe he was in front when he came up together with Harry (Maguire) to force the own goal from the opponent.

"I think the goal from Garnacho he was pressing in switch of play, and definitely in the third goal, he gave a good press and forced the opponent to make a mistake where Fred scored.

"He understands positioning in and out of possession, and he is doing a really good job for the team."

Weghorst – on loan from Burnley – has started for the 13th successive game for Manchester United.
