World champion boxer Ricky Hatton was found lifeless at his home in Greater Manchester. The Stockport native was just 46 years old.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery, adding that the death is not considered suspicious. This heartbreaking news comes just months after the legendary athlete announced his return to the ring, with a fight scheduled for December. Ricky Hatton had initially retired in 2012.
He had recently confirmed he would face UAE fighter Eisa Al Dah in a middleweight bout, set for December 2nd in Dubai.
Hatton, who would have turned 47 in October, had openly discussed his struggles with mental health issues and drug addiction.
Throughout his truly remarkable career, he held numerous world titles, as well as British titles, and was honored with the "Fighter of the Year" distinction in 2015.
A GMP spokesperson stated: "We can confirm that we found a body at an address on Bowlacre Road, in Gee Cross, at 6:45 AM this morning, Sunday, September 14th. The death is not considered suspicious."
Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
