Senegal 78-65 South Sudan: Nigeria's D'Tigers set to battle rivals in AfroBasket quarterfinals

The Senegal men's national basketball team secured a 78-65 victory over South Sudan in a FIBA AfroBasket playoff clash.

The win propelled the Lions into the quarterfinals, where they will face Nigeria's D'Tigers in a clash of West African powerhouses.

Against South Sudan, Senegal were hitting shots early and took the first quarter 21-18 then the second quarter 25-7 to establish a commanding 21-point halftime lead.

South Sudan mounted a comeback, outscoring Senegal 29-16 in the third quarter, but the Lions were back in control to take the fourth quarter 16-11 to seal a 13-point victory.

Top performers for Senegal included Brancou Badio, who delivered 31 points and 3 rebounds.

Ibrahim Faye contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Ibou Badji dominated the paint with 9 points and 13 rebounds.

Senegal had to go through the playoffs to secure a ticket in the quarterfinals due to their group stage record.

The Lions group stage journey began with an impressive 88-53 win against Uganda but it was followed by a 91-77 loss to Egypt.

They rebounded with an 80-70 victory over Mali to finish second in their group, securing their playoff spot.

They now face Nigeria who dominated their group stage with a perfect record.

Nigeria opened with a win against Madagascar, followed by a resounding defeat of defending champions Tunisia, and capped their run with a victory over Cameroon.
