Nigeria 78-64 Mali: D'Tigress complete Afrobasket 5-peat in Côte d'Ivoire
Nigeria's D'Tigress are 5-time consecutive champions of AfroBasket after defeating Mali 78-64 in Côte d'Ivoire.
On Monday, August 4, 2025 upon their return from Ivory Coast the President announced a series of rewards following their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.
The team secured with an impressive 5-0 record under the leadership of coach Rena Wakama.
In the final, they overcame Mali 78-64 to set a new record as basketball champions on the continent.
President Tinubu rewards D'Tigress
President Tinubu has pledged $100,000 to each member of the D’Tigress squad.
Additionally, the coach and technical staff will receive $50,000 each for their pivotal roles in guiding the team.
The President has announced that both players and officials will be conferred with the prestigious National Honour of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

President Tinubu has directed the allocation of one plot of land to each player and member of the technical staff under the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
This comes after Nigeria’s women’s football team the Super Falcons received similar national honors and rewards following their WAFCON victory.
The team is expected to be hosted to a dinner to celebrate their accomplishments.
