D’Tigers Mike Brown becomes the 1st unanimous NBA Coach of the Year award winner with Sacramento Kings.

The NBA revealed that Mike Brown of the Sacramento Kings was the unanimous winner of the Coach of the Year award.

A panel of 100 journalists and broadcasters all gave Brown the highest rating when casting their votes. 

No coach led this season better than Brown, who oversaw the Kings' first playoff appearance since 2006 after his first year in Sacramento. 

Brown won the prize ahead of Joe Mazzulla of the Boston Celtics and Mark Daigneault of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Kings finished 48-34, good for seventh place in the league and their first top-seven finish since 2003-04. 

They broke a streak of 16 straight losing seasons, had the best road record in the Western Conference, led the league in points scored per game, and captured a division title for the first time since 2003.

Brown is also the Head Coach of the Nigerian senior men's national basketball team known as D'Tigers

Speaking to Hall of Fame NBA stars Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley on winning the award he said, “These honors don’t come around often so you’re very appreciative of them.

“I’m really appreciative of being in Sacramento. The fans, the city has been fantastic.”

The NBA Coach of the Year winner receives the Red Auerbach Trophy, which bears the name of the iconic Boston Celtics coach. 

The trophy displays the well-known sculpture by Lloyd Lillie of Auerbach sitting on a bench holding a cigar and a game plan.

Brown's triumph was the Kings' third significant victory in as many days.

They defeated Golden State on Monday to take a 2-0 series lead in their Western Conference first-round encounter. 

Point guard De'Aaron Fox was recognized as the NBA's first-ever clutch player of the year on Tuesday. 

The coaching award was given out on Wednesday, and Sacramento will attempt to outscore the defending champion Warriors 3-0 on Thursday.
