Torrie Lewis: 19-year-old Australian wunderkind stuns Sha'Carri Richardson at Xiamen Diamond League

Aussie sprint younster Torrie Lewis defeated Sha'Carri Richardson in her first race of the season at Xiamen Diamond League.

Australia's rising speedster Torrie Lewis caused one of the major upsets in track history by stunning world champion Sha'Carri Richardson to a famous victory at the Xiamen Diamond League.

The 19-year-old marked her Diamond League debut with a blazing win from lane 9 in 22.96s, ahead of the world's fastest woman in 22.99s, while Tamara Clark was third in 23.01s.

Richardson's loss was her first competitive race of the season, having opted out of competing indoors and withdrawn from the Miramar Invitational a few weeks ago.

"I felt really good with this first performance. I know what I need to work on," said Richardson in her post-race interview with Citius Mag.

She'll be gunning to overcome her rustiness in her next race at the Suzhou Diamond League on April 27th and regain her supremacy with a vital win.

Also, Lewis said it was surreal to beat Richardson in an interview with Citius Mag.

"I didn't notice I beat them until I saw the replay and I was like, 'Holy sh--Holy crap.' So surreal."

The new star will be aiming for more famous races and victories, as well as lowering her 200m Personal Best (PB) of 22.94s clocked to win the Australian National championships, while also lowering her 100m PB of 11.10s set in January this year.
