American track queen Sha'Carri Richardson revealed ahead of the Prefontaine Classic her injury setback in February and her appreciation on having a long season ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo.

World champion Sha'Carri Richardson finally confirmed the major setback she suffered back in February, which affected her poor early-season performance at the Seiko Grand Prix and derailed her progression.

Speaking at the Prefontaine Classic (Eugene Diamond League) press conference, the two-time Olympic silver medallist revealed she had suffered an injury in February, though she did not disclose the specifics.

“The injury completely set me back from the season, delaying my start,” said Richardson.

She further added that she's grateful for the extended athletics season, which will give her ample time to recover and be prepared ahead of defending her 100m title at the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

“I’m definitely grateful for the long season. I know it’s going to give me time to be ready when it all counts—and the only thing that matters is World Championships.”

The American sprint queen is set for track return at the Prefontaine Classic, where she'll face a stacked field of Olympic champion Julien Alfred and world leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, to finally test her current form after her injury setback against the best female sprinters this season.

“I know that I will produce what it is that I want,” added Richardson on her readiness to win back-to-back Prefontaine Classic 100m title.

Richardson will aim to bounce back to good form and a fast time when she faces her training partner Jefferson-Wooden and fierce rival Alfred, who both have the Top 2 fastest times in the world this year.

A win or confidence boosting time will surely mean she's on track for better performances as the season progresses, especially ahead of the US trials in three weeks, which she has confirmed she'll race in the 200m event.
