Jamaica gunning for possible 1-2-3 sweep in Tokyo after recent brilliant performance by rising sprinter

In an outstanding performance by Bryan Levell at the Raiffeisen Austrian Open, the rising Jamaican sprinter blazed to a brilliant time of a sub-10s clocking, thus sending significant warning to the rest of the men's sprint division.

The 21-year-old scorched the track in the men’s 100m, clocking a blistering Personal Best (PB) of 9.82s (+1.3 m/s) to win ahead of South Africa's Abduraqhman Karriem in 10.07s, while Japan's Yoshihide Kiryu settled for third in 10.08s.

With his time, Levell has become the second fastest man in the world this year and the fourth Jamaican to break the 9.90s barrier this season.

This means Jamaica now has the three fastest men in the world in 2025 - Kishane Thompson (9.75s), Bryan Levell (9.82s), and Oblique Seville (9.83s), thus making a huge statement ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

Consequently, Levell joining the elite league of the world's best male sprinters means Jamaica have a strong claim on doing a possible 100m sweep in Tokyo, if he's allowed to run the event ahead of Ackeem Blake, who finished third at the Jamaican Championships to make the world team.

If he doesn't, the speedster will compete in the 200m, having won the national trials and already clocked a windy 19.76s earlier in the season.

Levell's performances in recent weeks prove he has now come into his own as a potential medallist in Tokyo, and the Jamaican relay team now has what it takes to challenge the super-talented American team for the men's 4x100m world title.
