Canadian Olympic champion Aaron Brown is the latest on the growing list of track stars to give South African legend Akani Simbine his flowers following his record-breaking 2025 season so far.
Simbine has been the most outstanding sprinter this season, highlighted by winning 60m bronze medal at the world indoor championships in March, anchored his country to 4x100m gold at the World Relays, stayed undefeated in all his six 100m races this season, currently stands as the world leader at 9.90s clocked in Botswana, and his most famous record of surpassing Usain Bolt as the first speedster in history to go sub-10s for 11 consecutive years.

With his long list of career highlights and consistency for over a decade, the 31-year-old is often overlooked as one of the greatest in history just because he hasn't won an individual World or Olympic medal.

However, track enthusiasts and a number of athletes are now seeing his impact on the sport beyond medals, which Brown has now publicly acknowledged by specially giving him his flowers.
"I call him the South African GOAT...I'm happy for him. I appreciate his consistency. I've always said to him directly that he's one of the best sprinters ever, he just doesn't get the recognition for it.

"It's kind of like a Charles Barkley situation where Charles never won the NBA Championship, so he doesn't get the recognition, but he's Hall of Famer and one of the best players ever," said Brown in an interview with @cbcolympics.
Simbine has been in tremendous form this season, defeating all top sprinters and Olympic medallists he has faced. At his last race at the Rabat Diamond League, despite a poor start, he powered to the win in another brilliant time of 9.95s defeating Ferdinand Omanyala and Fred Kerley.
With expectations on him this season, the sprint legend will be gunning to finally win an individual medal at the World Championships in Tokyo and cap off an exceptional season.
Meanwhile, Brown is also a respected sprinter in his rights. As part of Canada's 4x100m relay team, he is the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist, 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist, and the 2022 World champion. He has also won two World bronze medals as part of Canada's 4x100m relay teams in 2013 and 2015.

As an individual, Brown is the 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist in the 200m and won several junior championship medals early in his career. The 33-year-old has respective 100m and 200m personal bests of 9.96s and 19.95s.
