Following an historic performance by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, fierce hurdling rival Femke Bol opened up on her feelings and why she would love to race her toughest competitor again.
Dutch hurdling queen Femke Bol is optimistic about racing her fierce rival Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone again in the 400m Hurdles, after the American star athlete switched events this year and won the 400m world title in Tokyo.
The duo, who have been the most dominant forces in the women's 400m Hurdles event in the past four years, saw their rivalry take a pause this year when McLaughlin-Levrone decided to face a new challenge by switching to the 400m flat.
Her decision paid off, showing the versatility of her talent when she defeated two of the world's best 400m runners in history to win the world title in Tokyo.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's world-title winning performance at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships will sit in the annals of history as one of the greatest, engulfed with impeccable records and feats.
McLaughlin-Levrone stormed to the 400m title with an electrifying performance of 47.78s, smashing Jarmila Kratochvilova's Championship Record (CR) of 47.99s set in 1983, and also the fastest time in 40 years, just behind Marita Koch's long-standing world record of 47.60 seconds.
Olympic champion Mariledy Paulino made her work for the win as she clocked a blistering personal best and continental record of 47.98s, while Bahrain's Salwa Eid Naser settled for the bronze medal in 48.19s.
Meanwhile, Bol also retained her 400mH world title, racing to victory in 51.54 seconds. She came into the final as the favourite, having set the then-world lead time of 51.91s in August, and despite McLaughlin-Levrone’s absence, her performance was a stellar one in Tokyo.
Speaking after the race on what it would have meant to race the American 400mH world record holder, Bol showed great respect and was full of praise for her toughest competitor.
"It was strange to see her race (the 400m), but it was amazing to see the way she raced. I most likely wouldn't be here with the gold medal, but I really love to race her. She's the best athlete to ever do it in my event, so I would have loved to do it, but I also love to see her do so well in the 400m," said Bol.
The Dutch star also has a record-breaking resume in the 400m by being the indoor world record holder. It'll be interesting to see her delve into the event outdoors in the next few years, reigniting her rivalry with McLaughlin-Levrone and creating her mark among the world's best 400m runners.
