Track and Field has produced very few generational athletes in history, one of whom is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who, in her first full season running the 400m, stormed to the world title in record-breaking feats at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships.

The track star first gave a snippet of the incredible form she's in when she blazed to a new American Record of 48.29s to win her semifinal heat.

Coming back in the final, McLaughlin-Levrone lit up the stadium with an electrifying performance of 47.78s to win gold at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 on Thursday night.

With her time, she smashed Jarmila Kratochvilova's Championship Record (CR) of 47.99s set in 1983, and also the fastest time in 40 years, just behind Marita Koch's long-standing world record of 47.60 seconds.

Olympic champion Mariledy Paulino made her work for the win. In doing so, for the first time in history, two women dipped under 48 seconds in a single 400m race.

The Dominican Republic star clocked a blistering personal best and continental record of 47.98s, while Bahrain's Salwa Eid Naser settled for the bronze medal in 48.19s.

McLaughlin-Levrone's winning performance will sit in the annals of history as one of the greatest, egulfed with impeccable records and feats listed below.

Four years after making history in the 400m Hurdles on the same track in Tokyo, clocking a then world record of 51.46s, the 26-year-old will graciously have her goal on another world record in the 400m flat, which is now within touching distance if she decides to stay in the event.
