Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone: All RECORDS and historic feats attained with 400m world title win in Tokyo
Track and Field has produced very few generational athletes in history, one of whom is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who, in her first full season running the 400m, stormed to the world title in record-breaking feats at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships.
The track star first gave a snippet of the incredible form she's in when she blazed to a new American Record of 48.29s to win her semifinal heat.
Coming back in the final, McLaughlin-Levrone lit up the stadium with an electrifying performance of 47.78s to win gold at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 on Thursday night.
With her time, she smashed Jarmila Kratochvilova's Championship Record (CR) of 47.99s set in 1983, and also the fastest time in 40 years, just behind Marita Koch's long-standing world record of 47.60 seconds.
Olympic champion Mariledy Paulino made her work for the win. In doing so, for the first time in history, two women dipped under 48 seconds in a single 400m race.
