On a cold and rainy night at the Lausanne Diamond League, Ezekiel Nathaniel wasn't going to be denied making Nigerian history after storming to the men's 400m Hurdles win.

Nathaniel powered to the men's 400mH win, clocking an impressive 48.08s, just shrugging off the challenge from USA's Trevor Bassit, who ran an equal Season's Best of 48.14s to finish second, while Slovakia's Matic Ian Gucek came third in 49.23s.

His victory over more experienced hurdlers was a follow-up to his outstanding performance at the Silesia Diamond League, where he smashed his national record with a new 47.31s to finish second behind world record holder Karsten Warhold, who blazed to a new Diamond League Record of 46.28s.

Nathaniel has now consistently proven in his past three races in the Diamond League circuit that he has come of age and now belongs in the big league of the world's best hurdlers.

In addition, he has proven to be a major threat to challenge for a medal at the World Championships in Tokyo next month, as he's currently fifth on the top list this season.

Just as Tobi Amusan wrote her name as Nigeria's biggest star and one of the greatest in women's 100mH history, Nathaniel is surely on the path to make his history in World Athletics and become one of the greatest to grace the event.
