Ezekiel Nathaniel clocked the fastest time by an African hurdler in 34 years in a new Nigerian Record to win the men's 400mH NCAA title.
Presently, there are only three constant things in nature: death, taxes, and Ezekiel Nathaniel breaking his 400mH Nigerian Record (NR) whenever he races.
At the NCAA Championships in Oregon, the Baylor University senior stormed to a new Personal Best (PB) and NR of 47.49s to win the men's 400mH title, obliterating the field as Ja'Qualon Scott of Texas A&M finished second in 48.29s.
His winning time smashed his previous NR of 47.86s clocked in the semifinals - his fourth time lowering the record this season. It is also the second-fastest time of 2025, only behind Karsten Warhom (47.28s) and ahead of Alison Dos Santos (47.61s), two of the three athletes, along with Rai Benjamin, who have pushed the event to some of the fastest times in history.

Nathaniel also became the third fastest African in history over the event, just behind Samuel Matete's 47.10s and Amadou Dia Ba's 47.23s, both clocked in 1991 and 1988 before he was born.
The 21-year-old Nigerian hurdler further cements his case as a global threat and as a rising challenger for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo 25 summer.
