Algeria vs Nigeria: Lookman starts as Osimhen is benched in Super Eagles' possible line-up against the Foxes

Nigeria head into the quarter-final clash with Algeria in a confident mood, with Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen both joint among the tournament’s top scorers on three goals each.

The Super Eagles are expected to have a fully fit squad available, giving head coach Eric Chelle the luxury of sticking with his trusted 4-4-2 diamond formation.

Stanley Nwabali is set to retain his place in goal after an assured performance in the round of 16, with a settled back four of Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Bruno Onyemaechi providing defensive cover.

In midfield, captain Wilfred Ndidi is expected to sit at the base of the diamond, tasked with breaking up play and dictating tempo, while Alex Iwobi will operate in a more advanced role as the team’s creative outlet.

Lookman is likely to play just behind the strikers, supporting Onuachu, who will be replacing Osimhen and Akor Adams in attack as Nigeria look to maintain their free-scoring form.

Osimhen might start from the bench because of the buzz about an on-field altercation (fracas/spat) involving Osimhen and teammate Ademola Lookman during the 4-0 win over Mozambique in the Round of 16.

There have been speculations and calls from some fans for discipline or even benching him. However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and coach Eric Chelle have addressed it internally as a resolved "brothers' issue."

Osimhen was part of the team that trained and travelled to Marrakech on Thursday.

Osimhen has been key for Nigeria so far, scoring three goals (including a brace against Mozambique) and remaining a major threat for opponents.
