Osimhen, Oliseh missing as Nollywood actress picks best Super Eagles stars

Popular Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti (Dr), has revealed her all-time favourite Nigerian sports personalities, leaving out some notable modern names such as Victor Osimhen and Sunday Oliseh from her list.

Speaking in an interview, the award-winning actress reflected on her love for athletics while growing up and her continued passion for sports, especially women’s football.

Jaiye Kuti explained that her admiration for these players goes beyond their achievements on the pitch, citing their influence, charisma, and ability to inspire younger generations.

While fans may debate the absence of current Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and former midfield maestro Sunday Oliseh, Kuti stressed that her choices were based on personal connection and the impact the players had on her growing up.

She further hailed Asisat Oshoala as a trailblazer in women’s football, praising the former Barcelona Femeni forward for putting Nigeria on the global stage.

“Among my favourite Nigerian sports stars are Rashidi Yekini, Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, for their undeniable flair, and Asisat Oshoala, who has done wonders in women’s football,” she said via Punch.

“Their passion and skills are both inspiring," she added.

Osimhen joined Galatasaray after a lengthy transfer saga that linked him to top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Juventus, and Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.

According to Transfermarkt, the Super Eagles star has recorded 26 goals and 11 assists in 41 games for Nigeria. He is number 2 on the Super Eagles all-time highest goal scorers list.
