Yamal destroys Mbappe's Champions League record

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has officially become the teenager with the most goal contributions in UEFA Champions League history, surpassing a benchmark held by Kylian Mbappé.

​The 19-year-old broke the record on Wednesday, September 9, during Barcelona's 5-1 home victory over Feyenoord in their opening match of the 2026/27 Champions League campaign.

​Entering the fixture at the Camp Nou, Yamal sat level with Mbappé on 20 total Champions League goal contributions.

​He claimed outright possession of the record in the third minute, delivering a pass to assist Raphinha for Barcelona's opening goal. 

The assist moved the Spain international to 21 involvements, eclipsing the mark Mbappé originally set during his teenage years with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.

​Yamal continued to produce offensive output throughout the evening to extend his newfound lead.

​The winger scored a 76th-minute free-kick to record his first European goal of the season before assisting Gabriel Jesus in the 84th minute. 

The performance took Yamal's all-time Champions League tally to 23 total contributions, consisting of 12 goals and 11 assists.

​His historic display complemented a team performance which saw Karim Adeyemi and Raphinha score additional goals to secure the 5-1 victory.

​The individual milestone further establishes Yamal as arguably the greatest teenage talent in European football history.

The winger helped Barcelona secure the 2025/26 LALIGA title before anchoring Spain's victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

​Conversely, Mbappé's teenage Champions League record has fallen just 24 hours after the Real Madrid forward stated he deserved to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or based on his own historical metrics.
