The veteran center-back who finally ditched Europe for Saudi Arabia has reason to celebrate.
William Troost Ekong turns 31
On Sunday, September 1, 2024 Ekong turned 31-years-old.
The defender was celebrated by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
In a collaborative post on social media both CAF and the NFF celebrated day.
Along with the post was a message that said, "Captain. Leader. MVP. ©️🌟
"Wishing a very happy birthday to the #TotalEnergiesAFCON2023 Man of the Competition, William Troost-Ekong."
Ekong goes to Saudi Arabia
This comes after Ekong successfully joined Al Kholood, a team in the Saudi Arabian Professional Football League.
Last season, Al Kholood received a promotion to the Saudi top flight.
Troost-Ekong, the club's sixth recruit of the season, joined from Greek Super League winners PAOK Thessaloniki.
The deal has an option to extend for a further year, but it is presented as a two-year contract with Al Kholood.
