Brazilian football star Neymar has made global headlines off the pitch after reportedly being named the sole heir to an extraordinary $1.01 billion fortune. The twist? The benefactor was a Brazilian billionaire who had never met the forward.

According to reports from Brazil, the billionaire — whose identity remains undisclosed — had no children and was unmarried at the time of his passing.

In his will, formally certified at the 9th Notary Office in Porto Alegre in the presence of two witnesses, he declared Neymar as the sole heir to his estate.

The document emphasized that the donor was “of sound mind, free from any coercion or instigation” when making the decision. Court approval will now be required to ratify Neymar’s inheritance, with the transfer of assets also subject to taxation.

The billionaire’s motivation stemmed from what he described as a “profound identification” with Neymar, particularly the Brazilian’s close relationship with his father, Neymar Sr.

The benefactor stated that their bond reminded him of the deep connection he once shared with his own father, ultimately inspiring the unprecedented gesture.

While this astonishing inheritance unfolds, Neymar’s footballing story remains complicated. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward recently returned to Santos, but Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti chose not to call him up for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia.

Ancelotti justified the decision by stressing the importance of fitness in squad selection: “It’s a decision based on several factors: what the player has achieved in the past, what he’s doing now, and the issues he’s faced.

“No one can doubt Neymar’s technical qualities, but what we evaluate every day, match by match, is physical condition.”

For now, Neymar awaits confirmation from Brazilian courts before the billion-dollar windfall becomes official.

Should the process be completed, it will mark one of the most extraordinary stories linking football and fortune — a superstar receiving an unimaginable gift from a man he never met.
