Why did you sell him? — Joe Cole slams Chelsea over sale of talented 22-year-old
Joe Cole has criticized Chelsea’s decision to let Tino Livramento leave, claiming the full-back would secure a spot in Enzo Maresca’s current starting lineup.
Livramento exited Chelsea’s academy for Southampton in 2021 after contract talks collapsed. His stellar performances at Southampton led to a £32million transfer to Newcastle two years ago.
Livramento won the Carabao Cup last season and added the European Under-21 Championship title on Saturday, helping England defend their crown with a 3-2 win over Germany.
Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole, a former Chelsea and England winger, said, “I watched him throughout the tournament and I coached him a few times at Chelsea. He was coming through when I was there. He’s a lovely lad with great ability.
“He had everything: big, powerful, great skill, great attitude.
“When we talk about the new model at Chelsea and we praise them… you’ve still lost Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, another top player.
"I don’t know how much money, but they’ve gone out. Are the ones coming in [better]? Tino Livramento would get in Chelsea’s team now, I think.”
