From record-breaking performances on the pitch to jubilant scenes in the dressing room, the Eagles are making it clear they believe AFCON 2025 is theirs to win.

Dressing room joy as Super Eagles make AFCON history

After dispatching Algeria 2–0 in Marrakech, Super Eagles players and staff were spotted dancing in a lively conga line inside the dressing room, singing: “Why are you so so worried, my fellow Nigerians, I no go let you down.” It was a moment that captured the unity and belief coursing through the squad.

That confidence is backed by history. Nigeria’s win over the Desert Foxes made them only the sixth nation ever to win their opening five matches at a single AFCON, joining an elite list that includes Algeria (1990), Cameroon (2002), Egypt (2010), and Côte d’Ivoire (2012).

Under Eric Chelle, what many expected to be a rebuilding phase has turned into a full-blown title charge, powered by a rock-solid defence and ruthless attacking edge.

Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams once again led the line, as Nigeria outshot Algeria 13–3 and restricted the two-time champions to zero shots on target. It was dominance, pure and simple.

Momentum grows despite grim supercomputer prediction

Nigeria’s perfect run has also caught the attention of data analysts. Before AFCON 2025 began, Opta’s supercomputer gave the Super Eagles just a 7.3% chance of lifting the trophy.

That figure rose to 10.09% after a flawless group stage and has now jumped to 22.76% following knockout wins over Mozambique and Algeria.

However, the numbers still paint a tough picture. Nigeria remain third-favourites among the four semi-finalists, with hosts Morocco tipped as outright favourites at 33.94% and given a 57.15% chance of beating the Super Eagles in the semi-final. Senegal and Egypt complete the list of contenders.

Yet, as the singing in the dressing room showed, this Nigerian team is not fazed. With momentum, belief, and history on their side, the Super Eagles are daring fans to stop worrying, and start believing.
