Who is LaLiga's assists king in 2024?

In a year marked by Spanish football excellence, Villarreal CF's Alex Baena has emerged as LaLiga's top assist provider in 2024. 

The talented midfielder has notched up an impressive 10 assists in the league this year, outpacing his nearest rivals who have recorded no more than seven.

Baena's impressive performance extends beyond domestic competition. The 23-year-old has been instrumental in Spain's double triumph on the international stage this year. 

He was part of the victorious Euro 2024 squad in Germany where Spain proved too good for England, inspired by Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.

And just a month later, Baena added Olympic gold to his collection as Spain clinched a dramatic 5-3 victory over hosts France in Paris, finding the net in the final against hosts, France.

The Olympic squad featured a strong LaLiga contingent, with 19 players drawn from 12 different clubs across LaLiga EA SPORTS and LaLiga HYPERMOTION. 

Interestingly, only Baena and Barcelona's Fermín López represented Spain in the Euro 2024 and Olympic triumphs. López made his mark in Paris, scoring twice and finishing as the tournament's second-highest scorer with six goals.

Meanwhile, back in LaLiga, Baena kick-started his season with Villarreal in style, providing an assist in a 2-1 win against Sevilla. This performance underlines his consistency and importance to both club and country.

While Baena leads in LaLiga assists, it's worth noting the impressive performances of other players in 2024. Girona's duo Savio Moreira and Yan Couto have recorded 14 and 12 assists respectively, while Euro 2024 star Nico Williams has also managed 14 assists. 

As Baena continues to catch the eyes, it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his impressive form. His performances so far suggest that Villarreal and Spain have a true assist maestro in their ranks, one who could play a pivotal role in shaping the outcomes of both LaLiga and international competitions in the years to come.
