‘We would not concede’ - Ex-Super Eagles coach claims Osimhen can’t equalize if it was in Cotonou

A few weeks ago, the Super Eagles of Nigeria played a 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic during their 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The game saw Benin take the lead early in the first half and were on the verge of claiming a second victory over Nigeria this year.

However, Osimhen’s late equaliser denied Benin the win and sealed a draw, securing the AFCON ticket for Nigeria.

Rohr expressed his annoyance at not being able to host games at the Stade de l'Amitié Général Mathieu Kérékou in a recent interview with Bip Radio.

According to Mega Sports, Rohr said, "I am convinced that the last ten minutes of the Benin-Nigeria match that was played in Abidjan, if it had been played in Cotonou with 30,000 people behind us, we would not have conceded Osimhen's equalizer. 

"Behind the two goals in Abidjan, there were the Nigerian supporters who kept chanting his name. 

"And I hope, and I am even sure, that Benin will do everything to have its stadium. We must be able to dream."

The head coach of Benin believes that the performance of the national team is significantly impacted by the absence of support from the Beninese supporters in the stands.

Benin's second-place finish in Group D of the qualifiers secured them a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
