‘We showed the mentality of the team’ - Cucurella hails Chelsea after dramatic comeback win
Marc Cucurella has praised Chelsea’s mentality and unity after the Blues produced a stunning second-half comeback to defeat West Ham 3–2 on Saturday.
Trailing 2–0 at half-time, Chelsea turned the game on its head after the break. Cucurella pulled one back before scoring the equaliser in the 70th minute, setting the stage for Enzo Fernández to seal the win with a dramatic injury-time goal.
What Cucurella said
Speaking after the match, Cucurella highlighted the emotional significance of the victory and the belief shown by the squad.
“We are very happy. We work for moments like this. We showed the mentality of the team,” he said.
The Spaniard admitted that confidence was tested during a difficult first half, but insisted the players never lost belief.
“We went 2-0 down at half-time and there were doubts and probably not too many people believed in us. Then we spoke during the half-time, we went out with a lot of energy and we came back, so we are very happy,” he explained
Cucurella was quick to acknowledge the quality of West Ham’s performance, particularly before the break.
“It was difficult. West Ham played a really good first half as well, so we have to give credit to them,” he said.
He also pointed to the importance of staying composed under pressure.
“Sometimes when you are losing you lose confidence, but in both games we stayed in the game, we did things right and we have a lot of quality,” Cucurella added.
