Trouble on the Road? Wydad Head Coach Amine Benhachem Braces for Brutal East African Test Run
Wydad Casablanca head coach Amine Benhachem has made it clear his side fear no one as they prepare for the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
After guiding his team to a 2-1 win over Hassania Agadir in the Botola Pro, Benhachem called for full backing from the club’s fans ahead of continental battles.
We Are Favorites
“We hope our fans will get behind us for our first group stage match in the CAF Confederation Cup, so we can start with positive results,” he stated as quoted on akhbarkora.com.
He added: “We must know how to manage our matches across all competitions, and we aim to win our first three Confederation Cup games.”
Despite being drawn in a challenging group alongside Nairobi United of Kenya, Azam FC of Tanzania and AS Maniema Union of DR Congo (Group B) — a draw confirmed on 3 November 2025 in Johannesburg.
Tthe coach insisted he was far more worried by logistics than the opposition. “The level of the clubs in our group doesn’t worry me as much as the travel distance; we were hoping for shorter journeys.
“On a technical level, we are not afraid of any team. We are ready to face any opponent because we are contenders for the title.”
Wydad enter the competition with a rich continental pedigree — the Moroccan side have previously triumphed three times in Africa’s premier club competition and now see the Confederation Cup as the avenue to reclaim silverware.
Benhachem’s assertive tone underscores their ambition, with “contenders” now firmly written beside their name.
With a squad featuring stars like Hakim Ziyech, Thembinkosi Lorch and Aziz Ki, the expectation is set.
Nairobi United: We Must Be Ready
Meanwhile, Nairobi United head coach Nicholas Muyoti insists his team will not be travelling across Africa as tourists. This, he says, is their moment to fight for respect.
“We respect the giants, yes—but even giants fall when a team believes more than it fears,” said Muyoti as per The Star.
The former Nairobi City Stars coach frames the intimidating draw not as a setback, but as an opportunity to validate their rapid rise and reset the narrative for Kenyan football.
“This draw is not a punishment; it’s an invitation to prove that Kenyan football still has a heartbeat,” he said.
