The road to a record-extending 11th continental crown has been laid out, and it is anything but easy for the reigning queens of African football.

The draw for the TotalEnergies WAFCON 2026, held today at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, has placed Nigeria’s Super Falcons in a formidable Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia, and Malawi.

While the Super Falcons’ dramatic comeback victory to secure their 10th title in Morocco last year (the famous #MissionX) cemented their status as legends, that dominance counted for little in today's seeding.

CAF’s draw system has effectively created a "qualifying crucible," grouping some of the continent's most improved nations together.

The Group C Breakdown

Under the guidance of head coach Justine Madugu, who recently signed a contract extension through 2027, the Falcons enter as the team to beat. However, they will face a battle of nerves in Casablanca, where their group matches are scheduled to take place.

Zambia (The Rising Power): Led by the prolific Barbra Banda, the Copper Queens have become Nigeria’s most persistent rivals. This fixture is a repeat of the 2022 third-place match and the 2024 semi-final, promising a high-stakes tactical battle.

Egypt (The Returnees): Making their first appearance in a decade, the Lady Pharaohs have undergone a massive transformation. They are no longer pushovers and will look to use their technical discipline to frustrate Nigeria’s explosive attack.

Malawi (The Debutants): While they are the lowest-ranked in the group, the Scorchers enter with "nothing to lose" energy, making them a potential banana skin for the group favourites.
