CAF released a statement on Thursday confirming the investigation, though it did not specify the nature of the alleged offences.

The probe comes amid increased scrutiny of Algeria's off-field conduct, including political tensions impacting the tournament atmosphere.

The CAF statement read, “CAF has opened an investigation against the Algerian Women’s National Team on alleged violations of the CAF Statutes and Regulations during the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024.”

This development occurs just days before Algeria's crucial final group stage match against Nigeria's Super Falcons. CAF's intervention seems to address growing concerns about actions that could undermine the integrity and unity of African football competitions.
