Update: Flying Eagles injury-free after pre tournament friendly with Congo

Nigeria will play its first game at the U-20 AFCON on Sunday when they take on Senegal at the Cairo International Stadium.

In a routine update from Nigeria's camp in Morocco on Monday, the Flying Eagles are scheduled to intensify training, in a bid to start the 12-team tournament on a good note.

The Flying Eagles are drawn into Group A of the competition and will face hosts Egypt, three-time losing finalists Senegal, and Mozambique between Sunday, February 19 and Saturday, February 25.

Latest updates from Flying Eagles camp

  • The team had a recovery session on Monday evening after Sunday's preparatory game against Congo Brazzaville U-20. The Flying Eagles came from a goal down to beat their opponents 2-1.
  • Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso focused on the team's build-up play from defence to attack. All players on the provisional list trained under the supervision of the head coach.
  • Teams A and B played against each other in a training match with the tie ending in a 1-1 draw.
  • The training match took only 20 minutes while the entire practice session lasted for an hour, and 30 minutes.
  • The Flying Eagles are expected to have one more training session on Tuesday evening at 5 pm (local time) before another pre-tournament friendly against Central Africa Republic's U-20 team. The match will hold on Wednesday.
  • So far, no injuries have been sustained by any of the players.

Bosso boasts about Flying Eagles 25-man squad to Egypt

Ladan Bosso has boasted that he will be going into the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a better squad than he used in the qualifying tournament in May.

Bosso's 25-man squad to Egypt features seven professionals from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), three Europe-based players, and two impressive players who are currently unattached to any football clubs.
