Although Rountree's efforts were mainly focused on headhunting, Pereira deliberately used body blows and leg kicks to dismantle his opponent.
In the third round, Poatan began to benefit from his leg kicks and bodywork, while Rountree seemed to be hindered by the calf kicks and was noticeably slower.
Pereira was unrelenting in his pursuit of the knockout once he saw the openings.
He increased the intensity in the fourth round to keep his title and got the finish with a body shot.
The Brazilian is still building a résumé that has the potential to rank him among the greatest of all time.
