Arsenal fans are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their famous Invincibles season, even as the Gunners are set to miss out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.
Man City's 2-0 win over Tottenham on Tuesday night saw them overtake Arsenal at the top and take a huge step towards securing a fourth straight league crown.
Arsenal fans revel in Invincibles
Despite what they have called a ‘bottle job’ by Spurs, however, that has not stopped Arsenal supporters from marking two decades since their beloved team achieved immortality by going through the entire 2003/04 campaign unbeaten.
One fan posted: "OTD 20 years ago The Arsenal became The INVINCIBLES. The media mocked Arsene [Wenger] the year before when he said we could go unbeaten. Arsene knew."
Others reflected on the remarkable record of 26 wins and 12 draws from 38 games, with one tweeting: "WWWWDDWWWDWWWDDWDWWDWWWWWWWWWDWDWDDDWW P38 W26 D12 L0. 20 years ago today, The Arsenal went Invincible."
The 2-1 final day victory over Leicester City that sealed Arsenal's place in history was also remembered, with a fan writing: "20 years ago today, The Arsenal beat Leicester 2-1 and became the first side to go through a league season unbeaten since Preston in 1888/89."
