Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that he expects players on the fringes of his squad to seek a move away from the club when the January transfer window opens.

Amorim suggested that with the World Cup on the horizon, players will be increasingly concerned about their lack of playing time and its impact on their international prospects.

Among those potentially considering their futures are Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo. Both players face a battle to secure their respective places in the Netherlands and England squads for next summer's tournament without regular first-team football.

It is understood that the club has previously turned down a request from Mainoo to leave during the summer transfer window.

What Amorim said

When questioned about the upcoming January window, Amorim remained pragmatic about the potential for player departures. "A lot of things can happen," he said.

He added, “Even in our club, and you know that we have the World Cup, some players are not playing, they will ask to leave, so I have to manage everything.”

Manchester United will aim to secure a spot in the Premier League’s top four as they travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Ruben Amorim's team has won four of their last five matches, most recently defeating Brighton 4-2. In contrast, Nottingham Forest is currently struggling near the bottom of the league table.
