‘They let him go’ - Super Eagles legend says Arsenal made a mistake sacking Emery and bringing Arteta
Emery managed Arsenal from 2018 to 2019, leading them to the UEFA Europa League final in his only full season before being sacked following a poor run of results.
He was replaced by Arteta, who has led the team to challenge for the Premier League title for three seasons in a row.
Following his departure, he was appointed by Aston Villa and led them to a top-four finish in the league, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Oliseh praises Emery
Oliseh has lauded Aston Villa manager Emery as one of the world's best, arguing that Arsenal made a significant error by dismissing him prematurely.
He expressed his admiration for the Spanish tactician, highlighting his ability to achieve remarkable results with limited resources.
"To whom much is given, much is expected. This man is given little and he brings big," Oliseh stated, as reported on X.
"He is my best coach. He is the reason why I watch Aston Villa. I started watching him from Sevilla. Emery is great."
The Nigerian football legend believes Arsenal failed to provide Emery with the same level of backing that his successor, Mikel Arteta, has received.
Under Arteta, Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League, but Oliseh points to Emery's past achievements as evidence of his quality.
"I think he is probably one of the best things to happen to Arsenal. But, out of mistake, they let him go," Oliseh continued.
"If they had given him the same support they gave Arteta… Emery took Arsenal to the European Cup final. And they had average players."
