‘There is progress’ - Liverpool skipper Van Dijk gives update on contract situation

The defender was in action for Liverpool on Sunday as his team lost 3-2 to Fulham in the race for the Premier League title.

The centre-back's contract expires at the end of the season, and the 33-year-old admitted in March that he was uncertain about his future at Anfield.

He joins the high-profile Liverpool players whose contracts are nearing expiration and who have yet to sign extensions.

Van Dijk speaks on contract

Van Dijk spoke to reporters after the loss at Fulham. He expressed optimism about the possibility of remaining at the club.

According to reports from BBC, he said, "There is progress, yeah. I don't know [if I'll stay], we'll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we'll see.

"I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them.

"But I want them to be there on Sunday again [at home to West Ham United] and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us."

Liverpool are edging closer to winning the Premier League title for the 21st time in their history with seven games left to play.
