The 29-year-old joined Chippa United in 2022 from Nigeria Premier Football League side Katsina United and has since established himself as a key figure at the club, making around 70 appearances across all competitions.

His consistent performances have also earned him recognition at the international level with the Super Eagles.

What Shorunmu said

Speaking to Footy Africa, Shorunmu said he fully supports Nwabali should he decide that now is the right time to move on.

“If he feels this is the right time for him to leave the club, then I will support him. The most important thing is that the move helps his career and makes him an even better goalkeeper,” Shorunmu said.

The former Africa Cup of Nations winner also advised Nwabali’s representatives to be strategic in choosing his next destination, stressing the importance of a deal that guarantees growth, regular football, and stability.

“I trust his agent will secure a good contract for him. He is an excellent goalkeeper and our number one. We’ve all seen his quality, and he still has room to improve,” Shorunmu added.

Nwabali’s rise from the NPFL to becoming Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper has been widely praised, and a move away from Chippa United is seen by many as a natural progression in his career.
